French Press Brew Guide

One the single best ways to brew a great, full bodied, fool proof of cup of coffee.

Step 1

Bring water to a boil.

Step 2

Grind 30 grams of coffee to a coarse grind.

Step 3

Remove plunger and insert ground coffee into French Press.

Step 4

Put the French Press on the scale and zero (tare). Pour 450 grams of water into the French Press. Stir coffee/water slurry.

Step 5

Put the plunger on top of the French Press and set a timer for 4 minutes. Don't depress the plunger until the timer goes off.

Step 6

Remove French Press from the scale and depress the plunger slowly.

Step 7

Depress the plunger all the way to the bottom. Pour coffee while the plunger is fully depressed.

Total brew time:

4 minutes

Pro tips:

Use a scale for a consistent coffee/water ratio.

If you get the time, temperature, grind and coffee/water ratio correct, it’s pretty hard to screw this up. If you find the plunger is difficult to press, lift the plunger slightly and re-plunge. If you are consistently having this problem, try adjusting to a coarser grind size.

Use hot water right off of boil - approximately 195-205 degrees.
